In order to do this, we need you, Facebook, to activate Luxembourgish in the translation app. About Luxembourgish, its history and value: Some may call it a dialect and don't want to consider it as a language, but for us, the population of Luxembourg, it's our mother tongue, our language, our identity. It was even one of the fundamental symbols an values in moral resistance against the Nazis in WWII. Luxembourgish has been officially declared as one of the national languages of the Country by the Luxembourgian government in 1984. Furthermore Luxembourgish is not related to a Region of a country (for example like Bavarian - in Bavaria, Germany) but to the whole Country, the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. It is spoken by approximately 400 000 People in the world i.e. in Luxembourg, the great Region around Luxembourg for example in Belgium (in the Province of Luxembourg near Arlon), France (in small parts of Lorraine) and Germany (around Bitburg and Trier). Furthermore, the language is spoken by a few descendants of Luxembourgish immigrants in the United States (U.S.-state Wisconsin) and a closely related variety is spoken by ethnic Germans long settled in Transylvania, Romania (Siebenbürgen). The People of Luxembourg (and the law) consider Luxembourgish as their national language and don't want it to be reduced to some kind of Germanic dialect. In a scientific point-of-view this may be true, but we want more respect and recognition for our mother-tongue which represents one of our major values. Facebook in our native language would present a further step into this direction. Recently the Microsoft corporation even published language files for Windows in Luxembourgish which represented another great step forward for our mother tongue. So please, members of the Facebook staff, help us to advance the Luxembourgish language: activate Luxembourgish in the language app so that we can start translating.
